Candidate in Peru
TO THE EDITOR: As a 25-year resident of Peru, I am extremely honored to have served on the School Board for the last 14 years.
I was raised to give back to the community in which I live. I have a strong commitment to the educational needs of the children of this district. My service on the board has been in a leadership capacity for 10 of the last 14 years. I also serve Peru as member of the CVES Board.
Over the last 14 years, the board has had to make some very difficult, even agonizing decisions. However, it is these very decisions that has put the district in a favorable fiscal position.
The most challenging part of being a board member is balancing the needs of the children with the burdens placed on the taxpayers.
I am extremely excited about the strategic planning, Peru 2020, that the board has launched this year. This will allow us to gather input from stakeholder groups and have community input on which direction our school heads in the future.
We have an opportunity to build on the progress and growth we have achieved so far. We have the opportunity to continue our momentum through this strategic plan.
My husband and I have a large family: four biological children and four children we adopted from foster care. With only three of those children out of high school, I have a vested interest in seeing this district become the best it can be.
I strongly believe in the value of education and even have made the choice to return to college to seek a degree in a different field.
I hope you will join me May 20 at the annual vote. I would be honored to serve another term for Peru.
TO THE EDITOR: A big thank you to the people of Dannemora.
