TO THE EDITOR: I write this letter to announce my candidacy for a position on the Peru Central School Board.
I am a longtime resident of Peru Central School District, relocating from Plattsburgh to the Peru area in 1986.
I am a former teacher and administrator, retiring after 37 years with Peru Central School District in one capacity or another in 2006. Since retiring in 2006, I have worked locally as a substitute principal, as well as a trainer/facilitator for Champlain Valley Educational Services, experiences that have allowed me to remain current with the topics facing educators and students today.
Both of my children graduated from Peru Central School in the 1990s. Both currently reside in the school district with their children, and my eldest granddaughter will attend kindergarten at Peru Central in the fall.
As such, I come to you not only as a candidate but as a parent, a grandparent, a former employee and perhaps most importantly, a concerned citizen of the district.
My background, education and experience provides me with training and knowledge on the educational issues of today. I am intimately familiar with the workings of a school and know what is needed to prepare our students to be college or career ready.
I would be honored to be granted the opportunity to represent the stakeholders of Peru Central School District and privileged if you, as citizens, elect me to be a voice for your concerns.
I am listed as the third person on the ballot, and I thank you in advance for your support.
The vote is noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, in the Junior Senior High School gymnasium.
