Wilson benefit

TO THE EDITOR: Thank you so much to everyone who contributed and worked the benefit held for Steve Wilson at the Lyon Mountain American Legion on Sept. 1.

It was incredible to see the turnout and support for Steve and his family. From donors to supporters and volunteers (family and friends), thank you for your unbelievable generosity and help. Our community always goes above and beyond to help those in need.

We wish Steve could have experienced the love and concern we all have for him and how important his recovery is to so many people. We spoke with Steve, and he was simply in disbelief and so touched.

A huge, heartfelt thanks to all of you from the Steve Wilson Benefit Planning Committee and the Lyon Mountain Fire Department.

Supports Owens

TO THE EDITOR: All elections are important, but this one could decide if our nation will suffer two or more years of continued gridlock or if we can elect a Congress that can successfully address the important issues of fiscal responsibility, energy independence, and sensible foreign policy.

Our 23rd Congressional District is critical.

After 150 years of single-party representation, New York’s northernmost district is competitive again. We are fortunate to have a representative, Bill Owens, who has shown himself to be one of only a few members of either party with the ability to reach out across the aisle to try to get things done. Compromise is not a dirty word. The alternative is gridlock, with important issues going unattended.

Everyone is expecting a close congressional election in our district. And, although most of the national congressional districts are not competitive, thanks in part to the insane gerrymandering into red and blue districts, it is also expected that the final count in the House of Representatives, and probably the Senate, will be close as well.
