Dodge Friends group

TO THE EDITOR: Members of the Dodge Memorial Library in Rouses Point are inviting anyone who uses the library to join us in forming a not-for-profit Friends of the Library organization.

This will enable us to find grants to improve our facility and work on new programs for children, ‘tweens and adults.

There is no limit to the possibilities when people with great ideas join forces for the benefit of their community. Everyone’s idea has value, and we would like to hear yours.

Please join us at 7 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the library on Lake Street.

Reclassify Internet

TO THE EDITOR: The attacks on Internet neutrality have been many and varied, but one purpose rarely stated is the stifling of dissent.

It was not lost on the people who are pulling the strings from behind the scenes that the internet and social media played a large part in the Occupy movement and other forms of resistance to bad policy, both government and corporate.

They would prefer to exercise control unhindered by “trivial” considerations like the general well-being of the nation as a whole.

The Internet is,  and has long been, a common carrier. Reclassification by the FCC is long overdue, but better late than never.

Military widows

TO THE EDITOR: I am requesting that all those who have been in the military service try to answer this question honestly: Why are widows of servicemen being discriminated against?

Are widows treated the same? Why do they lose the service persons benefits if they remarry?

They were a part of the service before the service person went overseas to protect our country. They were more so when they took over here when the service person left.
