Appreciates support

TO THE EDITOR: I am truly humbled by the North Country support I have received while serving in Afghanistan.

Everyone is not as fortunate when the mail from back home arrives. It is true that no matter where you go, in the world, a part of you remains in the North Country and always will.

I have received a care package full of wonderful surprises and cards from Colleen Anstett’s fifth-grade class at Northern Adirondack Central School, a care package from NAC Faculty and staff and the tastiest apples from Cindy and AL Mulbury of Northern Orchards and Deb and Dave Goslin from D & D Tree Farm.

These people have gone out of their way to let me know that someone from home is thinking of me. Others wait, with great anticipation, when they see a box addressed to me, as they know it means plenty to share.

Being away from family and friends is always difficult, but it takes on a special significance during the holidays.

Your thoughtfulness and generosity is greatly appreciated, not just by me, but by many others, as well. Thank you.

Helping the Drakes

TO THE EDITOR: On the evening of Jan. 3, Howard and Amy Drake of Golf Course Road lost their home and personal belongings to a structure fire.

They are lifelong residents of AuSable Forks who have always been involved in their community, particularly during the Annual Fast Pitch & Slow Pitch Tournaments hosted in July.

To show Howard and Amy the love, friendship and support they have given to so many people and local events over the years, friends and family have come together in helping these two wonderful people rebuild their lives.

A spaghetti dinner and live auction benefit will be hosted on Jan. 18 at American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks. Dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a live auction at 7 p.m. The cost to attend the event is $8 adults, $5 children 12 and under & $5 seniors. Takeouts will be available.
