TO THE EDITOR: It’s that time of year when local charities are in need of help.
The Community Food Shelf, Christmas Bureau and the Salvation Army make sure that the local community needs are met as best they can.
We, too, try to meet the needs of families. The North Country Cancer Fund assists those families that have a loved one stricken with cancer and are having a hard time to make ends meet.
The North Country Cancer Fund has been helping families for the last five years with the assistance of the local community and their generous donations.
We have been able to distribute over $165,000 to more than 165 families in their time of need. All the money we raise stays local (Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties).
We are a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers, and it’s our on going mission to provide financial assistance to those in need for as long as we can. We do this through various fundraisers throughout the year.
This time of year is the toughest, not only because it is the holiday season, but additional heating bills add to the financial burden many families are faced with. The out-of-pocket costs for a family with a loved one with cancer adds up quickly.
