over signs
TO THE EDITOR: As a voter in Clinton County, I am writing to express my anger and disappointment at the individuals who recently felt they had the right to rip down the political signs of Family Court Judge Tim Lawliss. On Sunday, Sept. 14, I volunteered my time to put up lawn signs. Imagine my frustration to find that all of the signs I placed were torn down by the time I went to work Monday morning. As a teacher, I talk to students about citizenship and the privileges and responsibilities that accompany that. I urge students to take an interest and to participate in the political process. What message is being sent to our youth by stealing political signs? Every candidate has the right to participate equally in the political process. Running for office is expensive and political signs are part of the expense. Let's run fair campaigns.

mind
TO THE EDITOR: What a disappointment to learn that our congresswoman, Kristin Gillibrand, voted to support her party's so-called solution to our country's energy crisis -- a complete reversal of her 2006 stance, whereby she was quoted as being opposed to new drilling leases within 50-100 miles off shore.
Yet, I continue to receive her multitude mailings promising to save me money at the pump and describes so-called solutions to save on energy and utility costs. Hard to believe, her recent vote did everything "BUT!" Her vote has led us nowhere near a comprehensive energy policy that would help solve our country's energy and gas crisis. Think about this people!
We need to stop depending on countries for oil that harbor nothing but ill will toward our country's principles. Gillibrand has now rubber-stamped her party's empty bill that, among other things, has no real emphasis on off-shore drilling; has no nuclear energy provisions and has no significant on-shore energy exploration. What it will ultimately do is raise taxes in the form of higher gas and utility prices.
With this disturbing change of events on the part of our representative in Congress, on Election Day -- I shall cast my vote for Sandy Treadwell.
