TO THE EDITOR: I would like to thank all of the people who organized and participated in this year's Battle of Plattsburgh events. Our region is blessed with a vibrant history that deserves to be honored and celebrated.

In planning the Battle of Plattsburgh celebration each year, Kit Booth and the Battle of Plattsburgh Association help to do that work, Moreover, they bring history to everyone who attends.

Once again I was quite impressed with the festivities. Musicians from around the region performed beautifully; re-enactors staged the battle for spectators, games were played by families; and people of all ages participated. It was especially nice to see so many familiar faces among the crowd. People like Addie Shields, the former Clinton County Historian and current historian for the Town of Beekmantown, offer an example of dedication to local history in all forms.

Congratulations to everyone who participated, and, again, thank you.

TO THE EDITOR: I would like to take exception with two comments made in yesterday's article "Quinn Died from Fall."

(1) "There is only one person who knows why Jeremy was at Nason's Nubble," and (2) "There is absolutely no evidence that the community has any concern for their safety." The first is a quote from Troop B Maj. Richard C. Smith Jr. and the second remark is a quote from BCI Captain Robert LaFountain.

I know Jeremy Quinn; I have known him all his life. It is not like him to suddenly decide to go for a bushwhack rather than report to work. Initially the area was not treated as a crime scene and valuable evidence could easily have been destroyed by well-meaning people searching for Jeremy. The searchers, and more importantly, the search dogs, found absolutely no evidence of Jeremy crossing the area he would have to have crossed to get to Nason's Nubble. Dogs don't lie.

A more likely scenario is that Jeremy stumbled onto something he was not meant to see and was transported to Nason's Nubble by those involved. It is certainly possible that there was no sign of a struggle at the top of the cliff because he was unable to struggle. It is also possible that he was killed because he recognized those involved in a crime. I think it is probable that there is someone other than Jeremy who knew why he was at Nason's Nubble, and I think that the community should have a concern for their safety.
