&letterheadHow to assist in campaign

TO THE EDITOR: On behalf of The Committee to Elect Bill Meconi for Clinton County Family Court Judge, I would like to extend my appreciation to the voters who attended the "Meet & Greet" event hosted on Aug. 23 at the Riverside Bowling Lanes in support of Bill's candidacy. I wish to further extend my appreciation to voters who were unable to attend but made a monetary donation to the campaign.

For those who were unable to attend but are interested in ways (beside voting on Nov. 4) to assist Bill with his campaign, please log on to meconiforjudge.com or contact me at 647-5763 or kirish2l2@yahoo.com.

&letterheadResearch day-care choice

TO THE EDITOR: Enrolling a child in day care is a hard decision, but often a necessary one for many parents. All parents want the best possible care for their children in their absence.

My husband and I were no different when entering our daughter in day care. I researched our local state-licensed day cares and visited them to find the best fit for our family. The day care we chose did not have any posted violations when we enrolled my daughter. We thought we were making a good decision. However, we were recently faced with removing our child from her day care due to an unfortunate incident that left us concerned for our child's safety and well-being.

Though we were extremely proactive in dealing with our situation, I wondered how many parents are faced with similar situations and just do not know who to contact? Parents, you are your child's only advocate. If you do not voice your concerns, who will? If major issues go unreported, our state licensing agency is unaware there is or ever was any problem to correct.

I urge all parents to visit www.ocfs.state.ny.us/ccfs_facilitysearch/ and research your day care to make an informed and educated decision for your family. This web site provides relevant information for all licensed day cares in New York state. The site also provides a list of violations and their status for each specific day care. And, in the event it becomes necessary to make a complaint regarding the concern for the health or safety of a child in a day-are setting, this web site will provide you with a local and toll-free number to voice your complaint.

There are a lot of truly wonderful day cares and providers in our area that have your child's best interest at heart and this web site can help you find them.
