TO THE EDITOR: In Sunday's paper, June 22, the Press-Republican ran an article on more parking for handicapped on Margaret Street.

I do not have a problem with parking being provided for those who are truly "handicapped" but what is very disturbing to me is when people who are not handicapped drive a car and proceed to stick the handicapped hangar on their mirror, then get out of the car, do their errand and get back into the car taking the sticker down and driving off. I have seen this happen time after time. I did ask one person one time why they did this and the reply was, "I don't want to get my shoes dirty."

This, folks, is abuse of a privilege granted so those who are truly handicapped, can adequately do errands without the walking distances. I would love to report this, but to whom do you report it?

I only ask that if you are not handicapped, then don't take away that parking place from someone who might be. Thank God that you can walk the few extra steps.

As to Margaret Street parking, if it is a necessity for genuinely handicapped, then it should be done. If it is meant to provide a place for people to have as "convenience," then I would not agree with that change.

(Not handicapped and thankful.)

TO THE EDITOR: We are writing in response to the story that you did on Wednesday, May 28 on the food pantry.

Since your story, we have seen a phenomenal community increase in donations to the JCE0 Food Pantry! Our SHARE Bins at Hannaford and Price Chopper have been overflowing.

The May U.S. Postal Food drive brought in an amazing 3,300 pounds of food items for pantry. Our bakery donations from Price Chopper, Starbucks and Yando's Big M have also seen an increase.

Also, the community response to the story has been additionally heartwarming. Many anonymous people in the Clinton County area have been coming to and calling JCEO with donations of food and money to help our food pantry. People have been bringing us food from their cupboards, extra items they pick up when shopping, and/or dropping off money for JCEO to purchase food for the pantry.

Corporations are even increasing their donations, most notably; an anonymous company just donated several pallets of frozen Tyson chicken breast for our food pantry families, seniors, and individuals.
