TO THE EDITOR: My name is Susan Richards, and I was born and raised in Keeseville, daughter of Nyles and Jane McNierney. I graduated with a Regent's diploma from Au Sable Valley Central High School in 1992, and attended Berklee College of Music.
After my beloved grandmother past away, I chose to return home and took up studies in business administration at Clinton Community College. I still pursued my interests in singing and entertaining, working for a few production companies along the way and performing in community shows.
I graduated cum laude from Plattsburgh State University with a degree in mass media, and worked for WPTZ, NewsChannel 5 and WFFF Fox 44 during and after college. I also worked in development and public relations for the world renowned Trudeau Institute, a biomedical research laboratory, in Saranac Lake.
I married Stephen Richards in 1999, and have lived in Au Sable Forks since then. Nestled in town on Grove Road, I work for the Town of Jay Supervisor, Randall T. Douglas as his clerk and budget officer. My son, Samuel, and daughter, Sara, are my best accomplishments to date. I love them. My children have been exposed to the performing arts since birth, and we enjoy singing and dancing together.
I am honored to be running for Term B, the vacant seat on the AVCS District Board, and I will work hard to maintain policies set by the AVCS District and contribute to the budget process in a mindful way without burdening our taxpayers or denying our children a key to the future. If elected to the AVCS Board, I will fulfill my duties to the best of my ability.
Vote your choice on May 20 between the hours of 12 and 9 p.m. For more info, please visit feewebs.com/susanrichards.

TO THE EDITOR: I have had a very rough start in 2008. I have had four admissions to CVPH since February; a total of 27 days. In all of my 74 years, except for having four children, I've been in the hospital maybe twice.
It was very upsetting as I was grounded with a heart problem and my adrenal gland stopped functioning. What a change to my life. I can no longer go to work, go dancing or attend my osteoporosis exercise group. Wow! My whole world is upside down.
Then, one of my many roommates, Gloria, introduced my to "Channel 90" on the television, free to all patients. It's C.A.R.E., a Healing Health Care System. It's tranquil music combined with the most beautiful, relaxing scenery including birds, butterflies, flowers, deer, waterfalls and sunrise's, etc. At times it's seemed better than medication, and it worked quicker. It calms you and no one else has to hear it. I just put the speaker under my pillow. Your whole body and mind rests, soothes and calms.
I was so thankful for this treasure that was passed on to me (by another patient) that I felt compelled to write, in hopes that it will help someone else.
Thanks CVPH for doing this special free service for your patients. I will always be grateful. I now have it in my home, thanks to C.A.R.E.
