TO THE EDITOR: The Port Henry Fire Department held its 6th Annual Fish Fry in support of the Surface Ice Rescue and Dive Rescue Team equipment fund. On behalf of the officers and members of the Port Henry Fire Department, I wish to express our sincerest thanks for the outstanding support and generosity extended to us by our hosts and sponsor, the Port Henry Knights of Columbus Council 384.

The winner of the 50-50 raffle ($193.50) was Larry Hammond of Mineville. The winner of the ice shanty raffle was George Edwards.

In addition to the public, we wish to thank the local businesses and private contributors that include John Eisenberg and the Port Henry Service Center, Frank's Knotty Pine, Nu-Way Laundry, Norm's Bait and Tackle, Michele & Kevin Flanigan of King's Inn, Don Murdock and Dorothy Valenti. We also wish to recognize John Bezon, Jim and John Firlik, Matt Glebus, Phil Huchro and Charles Strack for their donation of fish.

In addition, we wish to thank John Bezon, Dan Cuffing, Sandra Rhodes, Jim and Cheryl Scozzafava, Tom and Mary Lou Scozzafava, Terry Stoddard and Essex County co-workers, John and Joyce Sweet, LeRoy and Helen Vanderhoof, and Eugene Williams for their very generous cash donations. A special thank you is extended to Pat and Tammy O'Brien for donating their musical talent.

The time, generosity and combination of efforts by those above helped our department, after expenses, to raise $615.38 in support of our very important cause.

Grateful for gardens

TO THE EDITOR: Spring has arrived in the North Country, and soon everyone will be planting their gardens, both flower and vegetable. As you drive through the beautiful Village of Rouses Point on the westerly shores of Lake Champlain, pay special attention to the flower gardens in front of the Dodge Memorial Library, the Village Office, Rouse Park and Veterans Park. These wonderful flower beds which add to the beauty of our village are planted and tended by four special women. A huge thank-you to Kay Papin, Nancy Baker, Pat Racine and Mary Racicot for a great job! A grateful resident,

Geri Favreau
