---- — Essex Theatre

TO THE EDITOR: Whether it be professional or not, community theater certainly enhances the health of the many small towns and villages here in the Northeast, as your editorial pointed out.

Important to mention is the Essex Theatre Company, now entering its 21st year.

Normally performing a major musical and stage play each summer, and often a winter show, its selections are unlimited.

Musicals have included “Chicago,” “Cabaret” and “Into the Woods.”  Plays performed are no less than “The Lion in Winter,” “Private Lives” and “The Odd Couple.”

Essex Theatre Company has ranged to Plattsburgh and staged “Rent” at the Strand Theatre in 2011. Broadway stars George and Leslie Hearn, residing here in Essex, performed in “South Pacific” for Essex Theatre Company at SUNY in 2007.

Its actors are not paid, but they are more than professional.

Come to Essex, next to the ferry dock, to see the comedies “Much Ado About Nothing” and “Becky Shaw” this summer.
