---- — Ensel visionary

TO THE EDITOR: I rarely get involved in local politics.

In fact, I have never written to any newspaper on behalf of any candidate. However, one of the people running for political office in Plattsburgh, Peter Ensel, deserves special consideration in his bid to become city councilor for the Fourth Ward.

As former president and CEO of Champlain National Bank and former president of Plattsburgh Noon Rotary, I have had the opportunity to work with Peter on many occasions. He is an outstanding individual who gave freely of his time to make the community better.

Whenever I needed help with a project that was for the betterment of Rotary or the community, Peter always stepped forward. You could always count on him to do whatever was necessary.

As Peter worked on committees, he did so in a manner whereby he always tried to build consensus. He was always cognizant of other’s ideas and more often than not incorporated them into the project at hand.

Peter is a true professional who understands the community. There is no doubt in my mind that he would always put the community first while at the same time not being afraid to tackle the difficult issues. He is a visionary who sees the potential of the community. I say this based on what I saw firsthand as I interfaced with him on numerous occasions.

The community would be best served by having Peter as their representative. I ask that you give Peter your support by voting for him on Election Day. If you want a better community, there is no one better for the job.

Bed race successful

TO THE EDITOR: The fourth-annual Rotary Bed Race, held on Saturday, Sept. 14, during the Battle of Plattsburgh weekend, was a huge success.

A total of 32 teams raced this year, with participation from many local businesses. We raised over $7,500, which will go right back into our community.

I would like to take a moment to thank some of the key players that made this event possible and successful: Kit Booth and the Battle of Plattsburgh Committee for hosting another very successful Battle of Plattsburgh weekend; our king sponsor, Wendell’s Furniture; our queen sponsors, IBEW & NECA, The Development Corp., UFirst Federal Credit Union and Champlain National Bank; and our twin sponsors, the Ground Round, Agency Insurance, Raymond James, Fesette Realty, Primelink, Abbot Frenyea & Russell, NBT Bank, Casella Waste Management, West Bay Financial, First View Eye Care, CVPH, Olive Ridley’s, Eye Care of the Adirondacks, Northern Insuring and Yipes! Plattsburgh.

Also, thank you to our many team sponsors. A special thank you to the students, athletes and coaches at SUNY Plattsburgh. We would not have been able to do it without your participation.

It was an exciting event, and I really appreciate everyone who was a part of it. We hope to see everyone back next year.
