Treasurer candidate

TO THE EDITOR: I am running for Clinton County treasurer.

I recently resigned from my position as a branch manager from a local, community bank to run for this position. This shows how committed I am to winning this election and becoming your next treasurer. My background in banking, finance and real estate make me the best choice.

There is a primary on Sept. 10 for the Independence line. When I visit with Independence voters, they are surprised that there is a primary, as primaries are usually reserved for Republicans and Democrats.

When I explain to them that there isn’t an active Independence Party in Clinton County and the endorsement of candidates for this line overwhelmingly goes to the Republican candidate, without their voice, they are more than surprised.

Most Independence voters registered as such because they care about the issues, not party affiliation. That is why I, along with many others, have forced a primary, so that Independence voters do have a choice.

I ask that if you are a registered Independence Party voter, please go out noon to 9 p.m. Sept. 10 and write my name in under county treasurer. There will already be a name in the box, but if you would like a voice in the selection, and you believe that I am the best choice, please write my name in the “write-in” box. This will allow me to be your candidate on the ballot in November.

Thank you for your consideration.

Independent thinking

TO THE EDITOR: Our nation shook off the shackles of monarchy because we prize independence.

Freedom asks something from each one of us, though. We must decide our own fate, not to simply do as we are dictated.
