Police officers

TO THE EDITOR: I’d like to thank Lt. Beebie and the other officers and staff at the Plattsburgh City Police Department for going above and beyond for my two children.

My 3-year-old was fearful about police officers, in general, and a trip to the police department elicited tears. That is, until they had the opportunity to meet some of the officers.

I wanted my children to know that police officers are friendly and play an important role in our community. They were all smiles on the car ride home, and I feel better knowing they have less anxiety toward the police.

Yesterday, I had two girls who wanted to be Dora and “a princess” when they grew up. Today, they want to be police officers.

Thanks for doing a great job and for taking a few minutes for the kids.

Travel covered

TO THE EDITOR: The Beekmantown Central School varsity baseball team recently competed in the Myrtle Beach Mingo Bay baseball tournament.

We were able to play four baseball games. The trip is done at no cost to the School District and is a great experience for all the athletes who attend.

Transportation for all athletes to Myrtle Beach and all games in the tournament is provided by the parents of the baseball program at their own cost. The coaches also pay their own transportation. I would like to thank volunteer assistant coaches Peter Bursik and Dave Manney for attending and covering their own expenses.

I would like to thank the Beekmantown baseball parents and the Beekmantown Booster Club for their fundraising efforts that allow for us to attend this tournament. The Booster Club works hard to support the baseball program.

I would like to also thank the Beekmantown School Board, superintendent and athletic director for approving of this trip. Even though there is no cost to the district, the trip must still be authorized by the board.

Thank you program parents for our second successful trip to the Mingo Bay Classic. None of this would have been possible without you.

We are currently fundraising for a potential trip next year, so all the community support is appreciated.
