TO THE EDITOR: The Town of Plattsburgh Parks & Recreation Department held its annual Doggie Paddle Day on Aug. 17 at the East Morrisonville Park.

It is a day that is very special for our four-legged best friends. For pet lovers, it means that our dogs get a chance to enjoy the company of new friends, swimming, Frisbees, tennis balls and, of course, treats.

The event was successful this year, with 29 dogs in attendance, but it would not be possible without many volunteers and donations. A special thank you goes to Petsmart for donating Frisbees, tennis balls and other dog-friendly items. Thank you to Canine Adventure and Peru Veterinary Clinic for donating items to our raffle. Lastly, thank you to Clinton County Canine Club for being in attendance and sharing all of your canine knowledge.

We look forward to hosting the event again next year!

We also hosted our Youth Fishing Classes on Aug. 13 and 15, which was taught by Don Lee and his friends from Trout Unlimited. The program was free to any Town of Plattsburgh youth 10 years of age and up. This year, we had over 20 youth sign up for the program, all of which had one-on-one attention from Mr. Lee and the volunteers from Trout Unlimited. Thank you to all of our volunteers for making the program a huge success this year.

It never ceases to amaze us how everyone in our area steps up to offer their time for our many recreation programs. We could not run our programs without their expertise, so again we thank all of you.
