TO THE EDITOR: A special “Thank You” goes out to the American Legion Post 1619, Sons, Auxiliary, Legion Riders, members and guests for a great fundraiser to elect me as detachment commander of New York 2014-15.
You are a great Legion family.
A thank you to American Legion Post 912 and Post 504 for all their support in the fundraiser and the following businesses for their donations: Price Chopper, Ernie’s, Kenney’s, Pizza Palace, Butcher Block, Friendly’s, Window Dressings, Lights, Dicks, Curtis Lumber, Plattsburgh Lanes, Perkins, Lake Champlain Pools, Auto Zone, Cumberland 12 Cinemas, Pizza Hut, the furnace cleaning by Scott Bushey and Dupell’s Woodworking.
The auction was a great success due to the time and effort donated by Vernon Bruno. Last but not least, thank you to Marylou Burdo for a great meal.
Once again, thank you American Legion Post 1619.
TO THE EDITOR: As president of the Briggs Street Cemetery Association in Westville (Franklin County), I want to share information that may be helpful to other cemetery associations who are trying to keep their property safe and secure.
We had the good fortune of applying to the New York State Division of Cemeteries for a grant to stabilize headstones over four feet high that were in danger of toppling and possibly hurting someone.
With the help of Michael Seelman, who is in charge of this area, we were given a grant of more than $14,000 to save nearly 30 stones from falling over.
Michael visited the cemetery and pointed out which headstones would qualify and helped us with filling out the paperwork.
I also want to thank Adirondack Memorials and Granite Works in Plattsburgh for tackling the work and giving the cemetery a much-needed renovation. They were in touch with us every step of the way and made sure we were happy with the finished project.
