Essex festivities

TO THE EDITOR: The Essex Fire Department is pleased to announce the trophy recipients from our Fourth of July parade.

Civilian Entries: Best of Show, Essex Farm; first place, “Spreading the Fun,” 1941 restored John Deere Manure Spreader, Irwin and Shelia Borden; second place, Essex Community Sunday Schools under direction of Superintendent Catherine Cross; and third place, Maple Brook Farm, four generations of the Bradley French families.

Fire Department Awards: Farthest Distance Traveled, Elizabethtown; Nicest Appearing Apparatus, Westport; and Oldest Apparatus Still in Service, Whallonsburgh, Oldest Apparatus, Lewis.

Judging was difficult as there were numerous great entries. Thanks to each and every entry that stepped off with us.

The Durant games on Beggs Point were their usual huge success with great, high-energy, fun-filled family-oriented competition. Each and every entrant was a winner.

Stoney Bailey’s and Matt Durant’s boat-race entries won their divisions.

Rave reviews are being received regarding the Fun Run, parade, fireworks, patriotic hymn sing and all the other activities. If you see any of the folks responsible, please take a moment and express your appreciation. These types of days don’t just happen.
