Natural-gas service

TO THE EDITOR: On March 13, the Cumberland Head Taxpayers Association sponsored a meeting with NYSEG representatives regarding the possibility of bringing natural gas to Town of Plattsburgh residents and, in particular, Cumberland Head.

Eighty-one people filled to capacity the Cumberland Head Fire Station meeting room that Wednesday afternoon.

NYSEG marketing representative Marilyn Keis-Hartunian and Field Planner William Horner explained the logistics of bringing natural gas to our area and what we, as residents, must do if we truly want gas delivered to our doors.

They explained the most important thing each interested resident must do is request service. This can be done by calling NYSEG at 1-800-572-1111, then at the prompt push 3, and at the next prompt 3 or go online at to fill out and submit the Request for Service form.

Without notifying NYSEG, there is no hope of ever getting natural gas.

Once you have notified NYSEG, they will send you a packet containing a letter and forms. A commitment letter is included.

Mr. Horner explained that you must sign the commitment letter but that you are not really “committed” until NYSEG actually puts the spade in your property to begin digging your line. So you will have plenty of time to change your mind if you so desire.

We need a minimum of 200 residents on Cumberland Head to notify NYSEG in order for them to consider that area viable. If you are remotely interested, please notify NYSEG without delay.

For residents of the Town of Plattsburgh who do not live on Cumberland Head, NYSEG expects to hold public meetings in conjunction with the town, possibly in April.

Memorable birthday

TO THE EDITOR: Thank you, family and friends, for adding to the joyful spirit of my 90th birthday celebration.

Being remembered in such a nice way means a lot more than a thank you can say.

Till we meet again.
