DEVI CURRIER MOMOT
Volunteer vice chair
TO THE EDITOR: I am doing a fundraiser and silent auction/luncheon for my brother, Lt. Cpl. Robert O’Connell.
Over the last three years, Robert has served two combat tours in Afghanistan. Robert is now stationed in Japan, and we would love nothing more than to have his home with his family for Christmas.
This will be the first Christmas in three years that Robert will spend with his family, which includes his proud and devoted mother (Kelly), his older brother (ex-Navy, medical discharge) Richard and his younger brothers, myself and Ryan.
Ryan, 5, is closer to Robert than anyone else in the world and misses him terribly. As Robert helps support our disabled mother and Ryan, he cannot afford to come home.
Ryan was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, a rare condition in children that involves inflammation of the blood vessels, and hospitalized for a week earlier this year. He now has to visit a cardiologist regularly to make sure his heart stays healthy and to help prevent him from having a heart attack.
It would make everyone’s Christmas to have Robert home, especially Ryan’s. Ryan calls him his “Bobby Daddy.” We are hoping to raise enough money to buy him a round-trip ticket from and back to Japan.
The silent auction/luncheon will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Plattsburgh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125 at 116 Boynton Ave.
All donations can be made to http://igg.me/p/221173?a=1176191. I can be reached at 293-5125.
TO THE EDITOR: My sincere thanks to all who helped with the Jeff Wyand Miracle Ride. We raised more than $38,000 for the Children’s Cancer Programs at Fletcher Allen.
We all know that a lot of our children from our area go to Vermont to receive care and treatments.
