Honored to serve

TO THE EDITOR: I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Town of Black Brook voters and residents for re-electing me to the position of town justice.

I am truly honored and appreciative for your support and confidence in me and thank you for allowing me to continue to serve our town.

I have been extremely fortunate to live in such a great town, and I have been honored to serve the town residents in various town offices since Jan. 1, 1977.

I cannot express in words the feelings I have for all the support and words of encouragement I have received during my terms in office. The friends I have made and the challenges I have faced through the years have been a rewarding experience in my life, and I will continue to serve our township to the very fullest of my ability.

Once again, please accept my sincere appreciation for you allowing me to continue to serve as your town justice. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Leadership bankrupt

TO THE EDITOR: Shortly before Christmas of 2013, our Congressman Bill Owens voted for the Ryan–Murray budget.

This piece of legislation is quite a gift. It is a gift of more pain.

Our military veterans are committing suicide in record numbers, though instead of supporting and championing for the care they need, Congressman Owens decided to prove his exemplary leadership and wound our veterans even more by voting for a budget that slashes their pension benefits — right before Christmas, mind you.

As a veteran, I am deeply disturbed by this. It is said Congressman Owens is one of the few who actually reads the bills he votes on. Either he also missed the part about the Ryan-Murray legislation dismantling the 2011 Budget Control Act and adding $6.8 trillion to our debt over the next 10 years or he has a secret contractual agreement to negatively affect our lives, savings and markets.
