Essex County races set

ELIZABETHTOWN — Essex County’s Nov. 6 general election will have only four races in the county’s 18 towns.

There are Town Council contests in Elizabethtown, where two candidates want to replace Councilor Kenneth Fenimore, who resigned earlier this year, and in North Hudson.

Moriah will elect a town justice to replace Jeff Farnsworth, who resigned. The other town justice, Brian Venne, has been handling all cases until a new judge is sworn in.

Chesterfield voters will also elect a town justice, but only the incumbent is running.

The offices on the ballot are:

Town justice: David A. Bashaw (R).

Town Council (unexpired term): Evelyn A. Hatch (D-E’town Citizens Party), and Michael J. McGinn (R-Taxpayers Party). Hatch ran in the last election, and McGinn has been on the board previously.

Tax collector (unexpired term): Jessie McDonald (R), Mark E. Deyoe (Independence), Char Newman (Green Party-Peace Party) and Tina L. Fenton (Taxpayers Party). McDonald won the Republican primary over Fenton. The winner will replace June Taylor, who died in a traffic accident earlier this year.

Town justice: Richard J. Carpenter Sr. (R-People’s Party), Larry V. Wintle Jr. (Justice Party), and Brandy M. Patnode-Michener (Honesty Party). Carpenter won the Republican primary against Wintle and Patnode-Michener.

North Hudson

Town Council (unexpired term): Marshall G. Gero (R-Peace Party) and Hugh T. Myrtle (People First Party). Gero and Myrtle have both served on the board before. Ronald Moore’s seat on the board became open when he was elected town supervisor.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
