Three vie for two trustee seats in Saranac Lake

SARANAC LAKE — Three candidates are running for two seats on the Saranac Lake Village Board of Trustees.

Incumbents Tom Catillaz and Elias “Allie” Pelletieri seek reelection, with Republican Garry Hoffman looking for a seat on the board.

The Press-Republican asked each candidate, if elected, what he would look to accomplish in the coming term.

Hoffman: “I want to bring a more proactive element to the board, which I think is lacking at present. There is one trustee who is not a Democrat, and the team would be stronger if there was another trustee to back that person up. Allie Pelletieri wants someone to stand with him and protect the taxpayer first, and I want to be that person.”

Pelletieri: “Financial stability for the village corporations and the citizens of the community.

“To accomplish this goal we must take a four step approach — 1. Create jobs using existing community resources, the new LDC (Local Development Corporation) and the comprehensive plan. 2. Expand the tax base and develop existing lots; revitalize vacant buildings and annexation (of adjacent property) when appropriate. 3. Plan for the future. We need to plan and prioritize capital projects. And 4, by consolidation and shared-services with surrounding towns and villages.”

Catillaz: “My goals for the next four years include attracting more new jobs and businesses to our village. We will continue to improve our infrastructure with several major projects this spring, summer and fall. Saranac Lake is making huge improvements that are and will continue to attract tourism and create new job opportunities for the future.”

Polls at the Harrietstown Town Hall will be open from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
