Westport Council seat empty

WESTPORT — The election of Michael “Ike” Tyler as town justice has left his seat on the Westport Town Council vacant.

Tyler was elected justice in November 2013 and took office Jan. 1 for a four-year term.

Westport Town Supervisor Daniel Connell said Tyler submitted his resignation from the Town Council effective Jan. 1, and the town is now looking to fill the position.

“The town board is requesting letters of interest and resumes from people interested in filling this position through Dec. 31, 2014,” Connell said by email.

“To be eligible, applicants must be a registered voter in the Town of Westport.”

The person chosen to fill the seat would have to run for the office in this year’s November election if he or she wants to continue in the post.

Connell said applications must be received no later than 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Town Hall, 22 Champlain Ave., P.O. Box 465, Westport, NY 12993.

For additional information, anyone interested can call Connell at 962-4419.

Connell said he and the Town Council will review the applications, speak with those interested and make a decision, hopefully in February.

The post can be filled by a majority vote of Town Council.

Tyler served 17 years on Westport Town Council; his term would have been up in 2015.
