Candidates face off in village elections

Rouses Point incumbent mayor will return; Keeseville mayoral challenger prevails
PLATTSBURGH -- Residents of two villages chose between candidates in seating mayors in Tuesday's election.
Residents in a number of communities voted on trustees to serve on the Village Board.
In the Rouses Point mayor's race, incumbent George A. Rivers (Citizens Party), with 327 votes, defeated challenger Thomas D. Batha (Common Sense), who received 280 votes.
In Keeseville, Meegan Rock (Citizens Party), with 118 votes, defeated incumbent Mark Whitney (People's Party), who received 78 votes.
Here's the rest of the election results:
BRUSHTON
Mayor: Donald Barney (Democrat) ran unopposed and was elected with 19 votes.
Trustee (one seat): John Edwards (Republican) ran unopposed and won with 16 votes.

BURKE
Mayor: Craig Dumas (Democrat) ran unopposed and was elected with 10 votes.
Trustee (one seat): William Carr (Democrat) ran unopposed and was elected with 10 votes.
CHAMPLAIN
Trustee (two seats): Amy Gehrig (STK Party) ran unopposed and won with 28 votes; and Thomas Trombley (Citizens Union) also ran unopposed and won with 28 votes.
CHATEAUGAY
Trustee (two seats): Robert Bessette (Democrat) ran unopposed and was elected with 25 votes; and Patricia Dragon (Democrat), also ran unopposed and won with 25 votes.
KEESEVILLE
Trustees (two seats): John Casey (Voice of the Future), ran unopposed and won with 133 votes; and Mary E. King (Equal Spirit), also ran unopposed and won with 140 votes.
PORT HENRY
Trustee (two seats): Linda DuRoss (Citizens Party), with 122 votes, and Ruth McDonough (Citizens Party), with 116, defeated Jack Sheldon (Taxpayers Party), 90, and Joseph Bodette (Taxpayers Party), 57. DuRoss was an incumbent and McDonough is a former village mayor.
ROUSES POINT
Trustee (two seats; top two voter-getters win): Francis "Bumper" Baker (Common Sense Party), 308 votes, and Jean L. Birtz (Citizens Party), 349 votes, defeated John L. Cooper (Citizens Party), 301 votes, and Robert Clark (Ace Party).
SARANAC LAKE
Trustee (two seats; top two voter-getters win): John McEneany (Republican), with 505 votes, and Jeffrey Branch (Republican), with 480 votes, defeated Jason Brill (Democrat), with 343 votes, and John Sweeney (Democrat), who got 104 votes.
Sweeney formally withdrew his nomination, but it was too late for his name to come off the ballot.
Village justice: Charles Bell (Democrat) ran unopposed and won with 429 votes.
