Westport School Board to discuss audit

WESTPORT — The Westport Central School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the library.

All meetings are open to the public.

Polar Plunge shows progress as event nears

PLATTSBURGH — More people have signed up for the fourth-annual Plattsburgh Polar Plunge for Special Olympics than the total who took the frigid dip last year at Plattsburgh City Beach.

And a recent count showed more than $13,500 had already been raised by 260-plus participants representing more than 35 teams.

“Many more plungers are expected during the final stretch leading up to the event, which helps support and raise awareness for the local athletes of Special Olympics NY,” a press release said.

The event is set for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16.

Longtime supporters and top sponsors Ambit Energy, FOP Lodge 999, Eagle Country, Nomad Airstream and Plattsburgh Distributing are joined this year by several businesses, including Taylor Rental & Party Plus, Wal-Mart in Plattsburgh, Dunkin’ Donuts, Kentucky Fried Chicken, the American Legion of Clinton County, Michigans Plus, The Pepper, Electric Beach Tanning and Yando’s Big M.

Several other local businesses sponsor individual teams and participants for the Polar Plunge or donate in-kind products or services, the release said.
