PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Chamber of Commerce will host four free informational workshops on What You Need To Know About Health Insurance Changes. The sessions will be held at the chamber office at 7061 Route 9 in Plattsburgh on the following Tuesdays:

— Oct. 8 at 8 a.m.

— Oct. 22 at noon.

— Nov. 6 at 8 a.m.

— Nov. 20 at noon.

The workshops will include a presentation on various provisions of the Affordable Care Act, including how the new State Health Insurance Exchange works, by Adirondack Health Institute, and a review of the new plans available as of Jan. 1 for both employers and for individuals and their families. This will include new and updated choices offered by Excellus, Blue Shield of Northeastern New York, Empire, Health Republic and others. Refreshments will be provided.

The chamber’s health-insurance subsidiary, Plattsburgh-North Country Service Corp., is licensed and approved to assist both groups and individuals in selecting health-insurance plans within the new exchange or outside it. Its services are free to enrollees and are part of the chamber’s commitment to serving the North Country. As of Jan. 1, all individuals and their families will be required to have health insurance or begin paying a federal penalty.

Pre-registration is requested for planning purposes, and chamber membership is not required. For more information or to register, contact the North Country Chamber at 563-1000. Those wanting information or assistance but unable to attend a workshop may contact Sandy Duquette or Kelli Hewson at the same number. Several additional workshops will also be held during October and November in Franklin, Essex, Hamilton and Warren counties.
