Pope Francis’ representative to visit Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — Pope Francis’ personal representative to the United States will be the principal celebrant at a diocesan Solemn Mass for the Year of Faith at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Olympic Center.

Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, apostolic nuncio to the United States, will preside with Bishop Terry LaValley and priests of the diocese concelebrating.

LaValley will serve as homilist for the Mass. Nearly 2,000 Catholics from across the Diocese of Ogdensburg are expected to attend. The Rev. Scott Seymour, pastor in Morrisonville and Treadwells Mill, is organizing a diocesan choir of approximately 300 voices to lead music for the liturgy. There will also be a youth choir made up of teenagers from Clinton County. 

Bus transportation from points across the North Country has been organized. Pick-ups may be arranged from the following areas: Sacred Heart, Chazy, 846-7650; St. John’s, Plattsburgh, 563-0730; Malone Catholic Parishes office, 483-1300; and St. Mary’s, Ticonderoga, 585-7144.


Portrait sessions planned atlocal church

CHAMPLAIN — Three Steeples Church will sponsor professional portrait sessions with Lifetouch on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Sessions are open to individuals and families, including pets, in area communities. You do not need to be a church member. 

There is no charge and each individual or family will receive one free 8-by-10 photo, which they can choose from multiple poses that will be done. No purchase is necessary, but if interested, additional photos in assorted sizes, finishes and styles can be purchased. Christmas cards are also available.

Everything is done digitally so you can view your portraits immediately to select your free 8-by-10 and make any additional purchases. 

Photos will be taken at the church at 491 Route 11 in Champlain. Bring a food donation for the local food pantry and receive $5 off a portrait order. First responders and those 60 years and older also receive 20 percent off of orders.
