Mayoral candidate to unveil Plan for Youth on Monday

PLATTSBURGH — City of Plattsburgh mayoral candidate Chris Rosenquest will unveil his Plan for Youth at a news conference set for noon Monday at the public marina on Dock Street.

He will also discuss “the local and regional partnerships required to effectively include our younger population,” he said in a news release.

“We often hear adults talking about how our youth are the future, yet there aren’t clear actions taken to ensure these young people are wholly integrated into the decision making process,” Rosenquest said. “Even in the decisions made that directly impact them.”

He said he had several several meetings and discussions with both local and regional educators, administrators, parents and students as he formed his plan.

“Any successful long-term plan needs to include succession planning,” he said. “Now is the time to fully engage our youth as a way to develop the next generation of community leaders, and my plan does that.”

Rosenquest is running on the independent Plattsburgh Renewal Party line, competing for the mayoral seat against Ward 4 Councilor James Calnon and Ward 2 Councilor Mark Tiffer.

Calnon is running on the Republican line in November and is the sole candidate in Tuesday’s Independence Party primary. Tiffer is on the Democrat ticket. Both Tiffer and Rosenquest seek the Independence endorsement as write-in candidates.
