Volunteers still needed for Battleof Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH — About 500 volunteers are needed every year to facilitate the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration.

Volunteers are needed for the Beekmantown Town Hall re-enactment, parade, selling buttons, kids games, Friday night concert and fireworks, Old Time Country Fair setup and breakdown on Sunday, Kent DeLord House admission buttons, marketing and information booths and Cannonball Fun Run.

For students who are looking for community-service hours for school or their organization, this is a fun way to earn them, said Diane Kwarta of the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemorative Committee.

All volunteers will receive a free commemorative button, which is used for admission to concerts and other activities.


Heavy agenda planned for Willsboro Central Board session

WILLSBORO — Willsboro Central School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in the conference room at the school.

Agenda items include a $502.50 donation from the Willsboro Teachers Association for a purchase of a new faculty-room refrigerator, a proposal from The MacMan for website re-design at a cost of $2,500; thanking the Town of Willsboro and Mountain Lake Services for donation of school supplies to the district; approval of Drew Belois as substitute teacher and Greg Gordon as substitute bus driver and considering appointment of Cathy Alden as assistant chief information officer/data coordinator at a stipend of $1,500.

The meeting is open to the public.
