State officialsto discuss STAR in Moriah

PORT HENRY — The State Department of Taxation and Finance to will present information on the new STAR Program registration at the Moriah Town Council meeting to be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Town Courthouse, 42 Park Place, Port Henry.

New legislation requires all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the State Tax Department in order to receive the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years.

The State Tax Department will be presenting the New STAR Registration Program at the council meeting. After the presentation, they will be available to assist anyone interested in registering for the STAR exemption online and answering any questions.

Senior citizens receiving the Enhanced STAR exemption are not affected by the new registration requirement. However, in order to receive Enhanced STAR, seniors must continue to apply annually or participate in the Income Verification Program.
