Push on to finish Whallensburg Grange renovations

WHALLONSBURG — The Whallonsburg Grange Hall has launched a 2013 capital campaign to raise $75,000 to complete the restoration of the building.

The capital fund will pay for new, comfortable and stackable chairs for the main hall; remodeling the entranceway, porch and upstairs bathrooms; a sound and projection booth in the balcony; stage upgrades; finishing the commercial kitchen; and

building a wheelchair-accessible entrance and sidewalk for the ground floor.

The improvements will pave the way for better programs, activities and use of the grange and the community kitchen over the next few years, organizers say.

“We have raised just over $38,000, a little over halfway to the goal,” the Whallonsburg Civic Association said in a news release.

Board members for the Civic Association, the nonprofit organization that manages the grange, will be asking for donations, the release said.

“We’ll be making phone calls, visits, sending out a letter ... email to give you several opportunities to contribute. We hope you can respond generously.”

Donations can be sent to Whallonsburg Civic Association, PO Box 54, Essex, NY 12936.
