Lake Placid Book Club meets Monday

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Institute Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Lake Placid Library to discuss this month’s reading choice, “Art Lover, A Biography of Peggy Guggenheim,” by Anton Gill.

In the book, Ms. Guggenhiem was left a small fortune at a young age after her father went down on the Titanic. She soon relocated to Europe, moving about with the American expat group of bohemian writers and artists of the day. She has been dubbed by some as the “mistress of modern art” but was equally well-known for her colorful and scandalous lifestyle.

The Book Club usually meets at 7 p.m. on the last Monday of the month to discuss books about arts and architecture. All are invited to join in the discussion or to just come and listen.
