MALONE — Chateaugay Funeral Home has purchased the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home of Malone. The business will be re-named St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home.
F. Thomas “Tom” St. Mary has been licensed for 42 years and has owned and operated St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home Inc. for 37 years. Tom and his wife, Connie, are looking forward to semi-retirement in order to spend more time with their children and grandchildren. He will continue to help with the business.
Hubert “Bert” Wilcox has been in funeral service for more than 37 years. He graduated from Canton ATC and worked for Martin J. Nunn Funeral Home in Rome, N.Y., until he moved back home to Brainardsville in 1978. He worked for several area funeral homes during this time providing professional services until he became employed full time as a funeral director with St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home in 1980. In 1995, he purchased the Chateaugay Funeral Home and continued to assist Tom St. Mary.
Emily Wilcox Hanley, Bert Wilcox’s daughter, will assume the licensed manager position of St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home. She graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and SUNY Canton with an associates degree in Mortuary Science. She became a licensed funeral director in 2003. She has assisted her father at Chateaugay Funeral Home since graduation. Emily and her husband, Kyle, reside in Brainardsville.
Chateaugay Funeral Home and St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home Inc. have served the families of the local communities for more than 100 years with dedicated and professional service. Both funeral homes will remain dedicated to professional and personal service, helping families at a very difficult time.
PLATTSBURGH — Donald Hoffmann, SRA, of Intercounty Appraisal Services Inc. in Plattsburgh, has recently completed the requirements for New York State Certified General Appraiser.
Having been a New York State Certified Residential Appraisal for more than 20 years practicing in Clinton, Essex and Franklin counties, the Certified General Appraiser classification allows him to provide appraisal services for all types of real-estate ownerships such as commercial, industrial, municipal, tracts, special purpose, conservation easements and historic-preservation easements. Additionally, having already been awarded the SRA designation from the Appraisal Institute for his demonstration of excellence in residential appraisal, he has now enrolled in the Candidate For Designation Program with the Appraisal Institute for the Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) designation, the highest level of recognition available from the institute.
Hoffmann said that none of this would have been possible without the support and guidance from Daniel K. Deighan, MAI, of Deighan Consultants in Keene. Deighan is a Certified General Appraiser in New York, Vermont and Florida and has been in practice for decades from the time of his origins in the business in Lake Placid.
For non-residential assignments, they have been in partnership doing business as Deighan & Hoffmann in the region over the past three years involving a broad range of appraisal types. Maggie Bougor, with eight years of service, has been appointed as Embroidery Department supervisor.
