Volunteer drivers needed to help vetsget to Medical Center
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Veterans Service Agency manages the DAV van schedule for transporting patients from the North Country to the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.
More volunteers are needed to maintain the schedule because several can no longer drive due to health concerns or because they have left the area.
The agency is purchasing a third van for the fall of this year to meet the increased demand and needs of the veterans.
To be accepted as a driver, drivers must complete a physical through the VA Medical Center and participate in its training program.

Boat-launch site near bridge being expanded
ADDISON, Vt. — Work is under way to expand the Vermont state boat launch site at the base of the new Champlain Bridge between Crown Point and Vermont.
The launch site’s parking lot will be at the same location as the former ferry site in Addison, Vt., where a free ferry ran during construction of the new Champlain Bridge.
The Chimney Point State Boat Launch, which has a small parking lot, will be merged into the new launch site. It had been closed during the bridge construction but reopened last spring.
The parking lot for the launch site is being expanded now, and the revamped site is expected to open in June.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation already has a small boat launch on the New York site of the bridge.
