Cheryl Boyea named Franlin County deputy clerk

MALONE — Cheryl Boyea has been named Franklin County’s deputy county clerk.

County Clerk Kip Cassavaw made the announcement this week.

Boyea has worked for the County Clerk’s Office since 1986 and was most recently a senior index clerk in charge of the Pistol Bureau.

Cassavaw was recently appointed to his position by Gov. Andrew Cuomo due to the December retirement of former County Clerk Wanda Murtagh.

The term expires this fall, and Cassavaw has said he plans to run for the job.

Working Families Partyset candidate process

PLATTSBURGH — This is the year local and state office candidates are up for election or re-election, and the North Country Working Families Party has a procedure in place for candidates seeking that party’s line on the November ballot.

Candidates must complete and submit an online questionnaire then be interviewed by local party representatives.

Find the questionnaire at www.workingfamiliesparty.org. Click first on “Elections,” then, at the top of that page, click on “2013 candidates.”

Once a prospective candidate has completed and submitted the questionnaire, he or she will be telephoned within a few days to arrange a convenient time in May for an interview, according to organizer Tom Wood. No interviews will be done without the prior completion and submission of the questionnaire.

The Working Families Party is one of several minor parties in New York state. It focuses on issues such as making the economy work for everyone; holding politicians accountable to the people rather than big money; better health care; and a higher minimum wage.

“It is strongly democratic in its organizational structure and prefers running no candidate when the only choices are for those who do not share its progressive positions on issues,” a press release said.
