Center for Writing’s Publishing Conference set

SILVER BAY — The Adirondack Center for Writing is offering its annual Publishing Conference on Saturday, June 8, at Silver Bay YMCA, 87 Silver Bay Road.

The program will provide experience on how to get published and how to market the book once it hits the shelves. The conference includes lectures, workshops and the opportunity to have a manuscript critiqued by experts. Literary agents Becca Stumpf and Kate Gerrick will lecture. Book publicists Susan Schwartzman and Gilbert K. Zachary will present on the importance of an author platform, and walk you through the steps to marketing your book successfully, including online.

Submissions of work for the manuscript-critique sessions are due Friday, May 17, and should include the first 10 pages, a cover letter and a one-page synopsis, sent by email to acwevents@gmail.com.

The conference is open to the public at a cost of $89. The cost for Adirondack Center for Writing members is $79; manuscript critique, $25. Lunch is provided. For more information, visit www.adirondackcenterforwriting.com.

Congressional Art Competition winner announced

WASHINGTON — A student from Argyle Central School is the winner of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition from New York’s 21st Congressional District.

According to a press release from Congressman Bill Owens, seventh-grader Cheyanne Stunger’s work, “Freedom,” was selected to represent the region and will be displayed in the Capitol Building for one year.

A reception will be held for winners from each district on Wednesday, June 26, in the Capitol Visitors Center in Washington, D.C.
