City Council may make decision on waterfront marina

PLATTSBURGH — City of Plattsburgh councilors will consider approving an agreement to launch a waterfront marina venture at tonight’s meeting.

But, they may not.

“Some of the council may still have some questions, so we might not decide,” Mayor James Calnon said Wednesday.

The city is considering proposals from Nav Tours, a Canadian and local company, and Plattsburgh Boat Basin, operator of a marina and the Naked Turtle Restaurant.

Both outfits offer plans that include boat moorings and slips, a restaurant and other waterfront recreational activities.

“We will have to decide on one of these two proposals or scrap it for now and re-visit it next year,” Calnon said.

Tonight’s meeting begins with a work session at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Both meetings are open to the public.

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Noon Kiwanis Club is selling tickets for its annual K-Melt raffle.

Each person who buys a ticket will have a shot at guessing what date the 350-pound “K” now sitting on the pond at CVPH Medical Center will fall through the ice.

One winner, after the “K” drops into the water, will be randomly chosen from among those who correctly guessed the date and receive $1,000, as will the Foundation at CVPH.

The remaining proceeds will benefit local charities and organizations supported by the Plattsburgh Noon Kiwanis.

Tickets, priced at $5 each or five for $10, are available through March 20 from any Kiwanian or at the following locations: Shumway Insurance, Dannemora Federal Credit Union, the Clinton County Treasurer’s Office and Nelson’s Flower Shop.
