Grants help senior facility buy generator

WILLSBORO — Willsboro Senior Housing Corp. recently received two grants, which have been used to purchase a generator for the common areas of the building.

The independent-living facility was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Special and Urgent Needs Fund at the Adirondack Community Trust as well as a $500 grant from the Essex Community Fund at the Adirondack Community Trust. The grants, as well as interested community members’ donations and Willsboro Senior Housing funds were used to purchase a generator at state-contract pricing.

Plans include digging a trench to the facility’s propane tank so the generator can be installed. Once that is accomplished, stand-by power will be available in the common areas of the building. This will give power — including heat, stove, microwave and security system — to the community room, public bathroom, laundry room and hallway. The work is expected to be completed by May 1.

Willsboro Senior Housing serves 12 low-income seniors, 62 years of age or older, or handicapped disabled individuals of any age.
