Medicare workshop set for Aug. 22

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Office for the Aging is holding an information meeting about Medicare on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Clinton County Emergency Services Building, 16 Emergency Services Drive.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., special guest speakers will discuss the basics of Social Security, Medicare (parts A, B, C D, etc...), EPIC 2013 and Medicare fraud. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

The event is open to anyone who is approaching time to enroll, is already enrolled or is considering retirement. Also invited are caregivers of those enrolled in Medicare who are interested in gaining a better understanding of how Medicare works.

To preregister, call the Office for the Aging at 565-4620.

Senior Computer Club to learn about phones, eReaders

PLATTSBURGH — The next Senior Citizen Computer Club of Clinton County meeting is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the Senior Citizens’ Center, 5139 North Catherine St.

The group will learn about electronic phone communication and reading devices. A trained phone representative will be on hand.

Annual picnic planned at senior center

PLATTSBURGH — The Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County is hosting its annual picnic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at the Senior Citizens’ Center, 5139 North Catherine St.

Features include the Back Porch Band, petting donkeys, a clown and a dunking booth.

Lunch is $3.

Two caregiver groups scheduled this month

PLATTSBURGH — A discussion group for all unpaid caregivers is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the United Way Building, 45 Tom Miller Road.

Another discussion group will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the Emmaus Room at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

The group, offered by the Caregiver Resource Center/Respite Program, is a component of Behavioral Health Services North. It is open to anyone providing unpaid care to an aging family member or friend. New caregivers, friends and family are welcome. No appointment necessary.
