Peru Central Budget Advisory group to meet Thursday

PERU — The Peru Central School Budget Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday and then again on March 7 in the High School community room.

The committee’s purpose is to inform and promote discussion during budget development. It meets three or four times a year to “develop an understanding of revenues and expenditures, components of a balanced budget and particular challenges that face the School District,” a press release said.

During a public budget-development workshop set for Tuesday, March 19, the committee will present its recommendations to the School Board.

Average gas price jumps last week across New York

ALBANY — Average retail gasoline prices in New York state rose 2.2 cents per gallon last week, averaging $3.99 Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 6,118 gas outlets in New York.

The national average increased 2.9 cents per gallon over the same period to $3.72, according to website GasBuddy.com.

As well, prices Sunday were 6.2 cents per gallon higher than the same day a year ago and 28.5 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

The national average has increased 42 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 9.1 cents per gallon higher than the same day in 2012.

GasBuddy operates NewYorkStateGasPrices.com and more than 250 similar websites that track gasoline prices at more than 140,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada.

Also, GasBuddy offers a free smartphone app that helps motorists find the lowest gas prices in their area.

Port Henry Zoning Commission to discuss moratorium

PORT HENRY — The Village of Port Henry Zoning Commission will hold an introductory meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Village Hall on Main Street.

The commission will discuss the village’s current moratorium prohibiting first-floor residential conversion of commercial buildings downtown.
