Free dental care

offered today

at High Peaks

PLATTSBURGH — High Peaks Dental’s Plattsburgh office is hosting the North Country’s annual Dentistry from the Heart event today at its 675 Route 3, Suite 201 location.

The event provides the first arriving patients, 18 years or older, with a free extraction, filling or cleaning. Over the past eight years, High Peaks Dental has donated more than $196,000 in free dental care to hundreds of North Country residents.

Kayak trips offered for adults

PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department is offering all Town of Plattsburgh active adults and seniors two free kayak trips.

The first trip to Valcour Island is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 20. The group will leave from the Peru Dock at 10 a.m. and return by 1 p.m. The trip includes a tour of the lighthouse by Roger Harwood and a short hike on the island.

The second trip is on Thursday, Sept. 27. The group will start at Picketts Corners Park in Saranac at 9 a.m. and travel 6.3 miles down the river to the Cadyville Beach. The trip will take about three hours.

Equipment will be provided to those who need it; others can feel free to bring their own.

All participants must preregister for each trip by visiting the Recreation Department at 151 Banker Road or calling 562-6860. Space is limited.

Learn about foster care at meetings

PLATTSBURGH — An orientation and informational meeting for prospective foster/adoptive and respite parents will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Clinton County Department of Social Services, 13 Durkee St.

In addition, the Clinton County Department of Social Services Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting (MAPP) training for prospective foster/adoptive and respite parents will start Tuesday, Sept. 25.
