---- — Church plans event to raise money for roof
SARANAC LAKE — The United Methodist Church of Saranac Lake is trying to raise $100,000 for a roof restoration.
The church is sponsoring a concert featuring the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble from Russia, which will perform Russian sacred music from 1751 to 1944 and secular music and folk songs.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in the church sanctuary at 63 Church St. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by contacting the church office 891-3473 or at the door.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. The ensemble consists of four professional singers, three of them graduating from the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music and one from the Minsk Conservatory.
State Police report on holiday crackdown
PLATTSBURGH — New York State Police were busy Thanksgiving weekend, holding driving checkpoints and checking establishments for underage drinkers.
From Nov. 21 to 25, State Police held 16 driving-while-intoxicated checkpoints and seven saturation patrols on state roads to heighten public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, speeding or failing to use safety restraints while driving.
At these checkpoints or while out on patrol, they made 25 DWI arrests, 23 criminal arrests and wrote 414 vehicle and traffic tickets.
Eleven underage drinking initiative officers checked 36 bars and 130 retail stores across the state, leading to 21 arrests for providing alcohol to minors and nine arrests for penal law violations.
State Police responded to no fatal car accidents over the holiday weekend.
NCCS School Board meeting coming up
CHAMPLAIN — The Northeastern Clinton Central School Board will meet in the Middle School library at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.
The agenda will include approval of the tax collector’s report, an update on Mooers Elementary, a presentation from CFES students and capital project payments.
The board meeting is open to the public.
Saranac School Board meeting planned
SARANAC — The Saranac Central School District Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the District Office in Dannemora.
Agenda items include the budget status report, tax collector’s reports and discussions regarding a superintendent search process.

Sons of American Legion award raffle prize
TICONDEROGA — Tim Rooker of Whitehall won the Squadron 224 Sons of the American Legion fall raffle.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Ticonderoga branch of the Glens Falls National Bank. Rooker won a Cub Cadet Snow Thrower from Tractor Supply.
Ticonderoga Tree Service and the Sandman assisted Squadron 224 with the prize’s purchase.
Night skiing to start at Titus Mountain
MALONE — Night skiing will kick off at Titus Mountain Family Ski Center next weekend.
Skiers can take to the mountain off Johnson Road from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.
The resort will also be open from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
Titus Mountain begins its seven-day operation at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Central School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Petrova Library.
