Tri-Lakes students volunteering to help seniors with yard work

LAKE PLACID — Student volunteers are available to help senior citizens in the Tri-Lakes area with fall, winter and spring outdoor chores or yard work.

Mercy Care for the Adirondacks is facilitating work with Aging in Place task forces in each of the Tri-Lakes communities to help them become more aging-friendly. The task forces are collaborating with community-service programs at National Sports Academy and Lake Placid Central, Northwoods and Tupper Lake Junior/Senior High schools.

Caregiver support groups to meet

PLATTSBURGH — A discussion group for all unpaid caregivers is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the United Way Building, 45 Tom Miller Road.

Another discussion group will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Emmaus Room at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

In addition, a telephone support group is offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20. Caregivers may call 565-4543 or 565-4625 for more information.

The groups, offered by the Caregiver Resource Center/Respite Program, are a component of Behavioral Health Services North. They are open to anyone providing unpaid care to an aging family member or friend. New caregivers, friends and family are welcome. No appointment necessary.
