PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is participating in National Child Passenger Safety Week Sept. 15 to 22.
This is an annual campaign to bring public attention to the importance of properly securing all children in appropriate child safety seats, booster seats or seat belts — every trip, every time.
Motor-vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children age 1 through 12. An average of two children (age 12 and younger in a passenger vehicle) are killed and 325 were injured each day. This fatality rate could be reduced by about half if the correct child safety seat were always used, police say.
The campaign will end on Sept. 21, with National Seat Check Saturday, where certified child passenger safety technicians provide free child safety seat inspections.
Morrisonville EMS, Clinton County Traffic Safety and Safe Kids Adirondack are supporting a Child Passenger Safety Seat 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day at the Morrisonville EMS Building, 21 Banker Road, Morrisonville.

The event will feature classical music by Brian Donat, Cellist, a small silent auction and a history hunt. Vintage or black-and-white attire is admired, but not required.
“Night At The Museum” is sponsored by the Ticonderoga Historical Society, Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, Eddie’s Restaurant and additional Chamber members.
PERU — Thera-Pets, an animal-assisted therapy program in Peru, will host fall activities.
The Saturday morning group for children is now open for registration. Any child may register, but preference is given to children with developmental challenges. Call 643-2577.
In addition, a second group is forming for grieving children. This can be the death of a loved one, including a pet and separation due to divorce or incarceration. People can register at the same phone number.
As a fundraising activity, the group is collecting used sneakers, which will be reconditioned and sent to third-world countries as part of the Soles for Souls program.
Lastly, Thera-Pets and St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church are co-sponsoring the “Blessing of the Pets” 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at Mother Cabrini Shrine on the Patent Road in Peru. Any type of pet can be brought for blessing, and used sneakers will be collected.
