Next UU Fellowship Forum on Tuesday

PLATTSBURGH — The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 4 Palmer St. is hosting its next community forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Dan O’Connell will speak on “The Meaning of Life from the Vedic Scriptural Perspective: How it Provides a Meeting Point for the Major World Religions, Part One.”

The forum, presented by the UU Fellowship Forum and the Search for Meaning Group, is free and open to the public.


Christian music fest today, Saturday in Malone

MALONE — Redeemed of the Lord Ministries is sponsoring HOPEfest from 6 to 10 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Franklin County Fairgrounds.

The annual event is designed to bring together all Christians and provide Christ-centered entertainment, teaching, music and children’s activities. This year’s event will feature Sound of Nashville; Robyn & Martin Green, psalmist and prophetic worship; Diana Kampnich and Proclaim HIS Coming Reign Dancers; Awaken; The Stalkers; Spirit; the Rev. Bill Carroll of Fort Covington; karaoke; the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir; and more.

The event is free.

Car show Sunday to raise money for church

ROUSES POINT — St. Patrick’s Church is holding an antique and classic car show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church grounds on Lake Street.

The show is for vehicles 25 years and older. Registration is $10. There is no charge for spectators. 

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 cars that arrive. Judging will be done by the participants, with awards for the Top 40, Spectator’s Choice and Best of Show announced at 3 p.m.

There will also be a concession stand, 50/50 drawing and raffle. All proceeds will benefit St. Patrick’s Church.


Mormon missionary count hits milestone

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The number of Mormon missionaries has surpassed 75,000 worldwide this month, driven by the church’s decision to lower the minimum age for ambassadors of the Utah-based faith.
