Smaller border crossings set summer hours

CHAMPLAIN — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations has set summer operating hours for the Churubusco and Cannons Corners border-crossing locations.

From May 1 until Oct. 31, the new hours will be from 8 a.m. to midnight.

The ports of Cannons Corners and Churubusco have limited immigration-processing capabilities. It is suggested that travelers requiring immigration document processing use an alternate port of entry.

People who want additional information may contact the Trout River Port of Entry at 483-0821 or the Port of Champlain at 298-8346.

Rouses Point plans Spring Cleanup Days

ROUSES POINT — The Village of Rouses Point will hold its Spring Cleanup Days Monday, May 6, through Friday, May 10.

Residents are requested to bag as much of the material as possible and place it curbside by 7:30 a.m. in a way that the pickup truck collecting the bags is not hindered by parked cars or other interference.

“This will greatly facilitate the collection,” a village press release said.

The collection, the only one this spring, is just for bagged clippings, leaves and brush, along with tree limbs no larger than 3 inches in diameter. The next pickup will take place in the fall.

The compost facility will be used for leaves and bagged clippings, only, not tree branches.
