Fundraiser for Beaver Shappy in Saranac today

SARANAC — The fundraiser set for noon today to help Norman “Beaver” Shappy takes place at the Un-Easy Riders Motorcycle Club Clubhouse at 65 Number 37 Road in Saranac, not in Saranac Lake as was printed in a story in Friday’s paper. There will be food, music and live entertainment for $10 per person. 

The money will help fund Beaver’s trip to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he had an appointment Friday to get another opinion on his cancer treatment.

Plattsburgh crews change pickup days for holiday

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Public Works Department won’t be picking up garbage on Monday, Nov. 12, due to the Veterans Day holiday.

Monday’s collection will be done Tuesday, and the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday pickups will take place on their regular days.

Food Shelf to shut down for holiday

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf at the United Methodist Church on Beekman Street will be closed Monday November 12 in observance of Veterans Day.

Author honored at Thursday reception

PLATTSBURGH — All are welcome at a reception hosted by the Friends of the Plattsburgh Public Library in honor of Local History Librarian Kelly M. Julian at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. 

Upstairs at the Plattsburgh Public Library on Oak Street, Julian will make a presentation on her new book, “Plattsburgh,” an Images of America title for Arcadia Publishing. The book is a photographic history of Plattsburgh. Copies will be available for purchase and signing by the author. All are invited to attend.

Grants available for cultural,history projects

GRAND ISLE, Vt  — The Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership and the Lake Champlain Basin Program are requesting proposals for cultural/natural heritage research and interpretation projects.
