---- — Court date in manslaughter case postponed

CHAMPLAIN — A court appearance for a Mooers man who has been charged with manslaughter has been postponed until Aug. 7.

Ronald R. Trombly, 85, was released from police custody after he was arrested on charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, all felonies; third-degree assault, a misdemeanor; driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content above .08 percent; and failure to exercise due care when approaching pedestrians.

The arrest was in connection with a May 20 accident on Perry Mills Road in Champlain that killed Ashley A. Poissant, 27, of Champlain. She was jogging with friends when she was struck by a car driven by Trombly.

He was originally scheduled to appear in Champlain Town Court on Wednesday.

Bridge project to cause some disruptions

ELLENBURG — Clinton County Highway Superintendent Al Rascoe is advising area residents that periodic disruptions will occur because of the Narrows Road Bridge project in the Town of Ellenburg.

Temporary closures of the waterway and disruption of boating activities could take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Every effort will be made to expediate the work during this time,” Rascoe said in a news release. “Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.”


LPCA offers free drama workshops

LAKE PLACID —The Lake Placid Center for the Arts will hold a free summer residency program and workshops in conjunction with the Missoula Children’s Theatre.

At 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, open auditions will be held for Robinson Crusoe. 

“Creative Dramatics” for grades 1 and 2 will be held on Tuesday, July 16.

“Put Your Best Foot Forward,” for children grades 1 through 12, will take place on Wednesday, July 17.

“Let’s Make-Up” for children in grades 1 through 12 will be held on Thursday, July 18.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre casts 50 to 60 local students to perform in a production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week, and public performances are planned on Saturday, July 20, at noon and 3 p.m.

Registration is required for the workshops, and sign-up is on a first-come, first–serve basis. All workshops will be held at the LPCA from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Call 523-2512 or visit to sign up.
